General Information About Internships

An internship is one of the best possible ways to prepare for a career. Many of our graduates have said that their internships were one of the most valuable learning experiences during their time at Cornell. We hope you will take advantage of this opportunity.

There are a variety of internships available. However, not all internships provide equal experience or benefits. Those on campus, for example, are more convenient but not generally as rewarding as working during the summer for a larger organization in other metropolitan areas. Your internship experience should be under the mentorship of a communication professional.

You are responsible for arranging your own internship. The Career Development Office in Roberts Hall has an extensive file of available internships. Additionally, we will post available internships on this site, as they become available.

In order to receive academic credit, you must register for COMM 496.

If you are interested in applying for an internship, please contact Danielle Dean in 334 Kennedy Hall (dyd1@cornell.edu) for an information packet containing the details and information of applying for an internship. Those interested are advised to read the packet thoroughly before scheduling an informational meeting with a faculty member.

You must also have the Learning Contract completed and approved by Kathy Berggren, the department internship coordinator, prior to beginning the internship.
